VIDEO: Punter Michael Dickson broke out the ultra rare dropkick kickoff and onside kick against the Bears

September 18, 2018 By AM 1530

The last time the dropkick was used in a regulation NFL game was when then Patriots special teamer, and former Aussie rules footballer, Nate Ebner attempted one during a 2013 Week 15 game, but Seahawk rookie punter Michael Dickson might be taking the ancient play mainstream, again.

In addition to regularly unleashing 60+ yard traditional bombs, last night Dickson dipped into his bag of Aussie tricks for a dropkick kickoff and onside kick in the fourth quarter against the Bears.

Australian Rules Football players are dominating the punting game in the NFL and college, and Seahawk rookie Michael Dickson may be the best we’ve seen yet. The onside kick failed and the kickoff wasn’t necessarily more effective than a normal kickoff, but it’s still cool as hell to watch something right out of the leather helmet era.

Here’s the kickoff:

And the onside kick:

It didn’t work by a mile but I applaud the effort to try a dropkick onside pic.twitter.com/YW206P73QE
