VIDEO: Crafty dual threat West Virginia HS QB Nick Saban shreds defenses like a late-season FCS opponent

December 5, 2018 By AM 1530

Before Nick Saban was the greatest college football coach of all-time, he was a crafty dual quarterback and defensive back from Fairmont, West Virginia, leading the Monongah High School football team to a 1968 West Virginia High School state title

In some rare highlights of young Saban we found on YouTube, the future G.O.A.T. college coach and a ridiculously good running back  – who runs like a Saban recruit – shred opponents like Alabama running through a late-season FCS opponent before playing Auburn.

Saban also played defense and laid the wood like he would later continue to do as a safety at Kent State. Would Coach Saban recruit QB Saban? Probably not, but it’s cool to see how the greats got their start and developed their love of the game.

In a presser from this summer, Saban told a fantastic story about a lesson he learned from his high school coach Earl Keener during a last second win, that he still swears by today. It’s all about the players, not the plays. Looking at Bama’s roster, that sounds about right.
