Porzingis Trade a Home Run for the Knicks

February 1, 2019 By AM 1530

The news of the Kristaps Porzingis trade almost broke the internet when it came down yesterday afternoon, and Knicks fans were largely enraged to see their franchise player dealt to the Mavericks.

Colin disagrees and thinks the deal was a home run for New York because it clears up space for two max contracts this summer which gives them a legitimate shot at pursuing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving – or other available stars. It also allows them to get out of having to max out Porzingis coming off a knee injury in a league where big men are continually losing value.

If the Knicks can land some big free agent fish and also score Zion Williamson – or R.J. Barrett – in the Draft, they have a chance to be relevant for the first time since the 90’s. Cheer up New York, it’s a good day for you, besides the weather.

“It’s a good day to be a Knick fan. Think of all the positives:

– No more risky contract on the books
– 2 max spots available
– Kevin Knox is a very good player
– Zion Williamson is transformational at Duke
– David Fizdale is widely respected among NBA players.” — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/xo8od0JZTW
