Colin: For Baker to work, the Browns should get Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma

October 29, 2018 By AM 1530

Coming off a loss to the Steelers that dropped them to 2-5-1 on the season, the Browns shocked everyone by canning Head Coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Colin didn’t like the move since the Browns had been competitive in all but one of their games this season, including 4 decided in overtime. If Cleveland had a competent kicker, they could have a winning record.

But honestly, nothing is surprising when it comes to dysfunction and Cleveland.

The biggest loser in this midseason mess is Browns rookie Baker Mayfield, who will now have to survive the second half of his rookie season with an interim head coach and coordinator without severely regressing.

Colin thinks the only way for Cleveland to turn things around is for Baker Mayfield to work, and the best way for Mayfield to work is for Cleveland to go get his former head coach at Oklahoma, Lincoln Riley. Riley is an offensive genius whose scheme would fit perfectly in today’s NFL and would allow Baker thrive, similar to the Rams hiring Sean McVay to pair with Jared Goff. The idea of hiring Riley out of college would have seemed crazy 10 years ago (see Steve Spurrier), but in today’s NFL it could be a home run hire.

“The only chance for the Cleveland Browns to end this 20-year abyss, Baker Mayfield has to work. I’d go to Oklahoma and hire his coach Lincoln Riley.” — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/8KguwVOeFa
