Probably the most crucial single coaching decision in Super Bowl LIII came with Patriots up 7 and facing a 4th and 1 in Rams territory with under two minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Bill Belichick appeared to contemplate going for it to seal the game with a first down – the Rams had no timeouts remaining – but game audio captured by NFL Films shows that Tom Brady helped him decide to kick the field goal to put them up 10.
After some lobbying by Brady, Belichick sent out Steven Gostkowski, who nailed the 42-yarder to effectively put the game away. Belichick gets credit for making the right call, but Tom should get an assist.
