Vanderbilt used Sarah Fuller as a PR Stunt

Vanderbilt had Sarah Fuller, the goalkeeper for their women’s soccer team, suited up and kicked for the Commodores, becoming the first ever woman to play in a Power 5 football game.

Clay Travis is reacting to what was a historic day for college football on Saturday. Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller, the goalkeeper for their women’s soccer team, suited up and kicked for the Commodores, becoming the first ever woman to play in a Power 5 football game.

Clay has absolutely no issue at all with Sarah Fuller, but he is questioning the logic behind the decision to start Fuller as their kicker. Clay points out, that in the NFL, nobody has a back up kicker. If the kicker gets hurt, the punter will assume the duties of the kicker. Vanderbilt’s punter was healthy and he had a lot of action on Saturday, as Vanderbilt got blown out and did not score a single point.

On Sunday, Vanderbilt head coach Derrick Mason was fired. This also raises some questions to Clay, as he claims that the decision to start Sarah Fuller seemed like a last-ditch effort for Mason to save his job. In the end, he was still fired, as Vanderbilt suffered their worst loss of the season, losing 41-0 to Missouri.
