Carson Wentz: A Cautionary Tale of Locking a QB

December 1, 2020 By AM 1530 WCKG

Carson Wentz under-performs on Monday Night. Unfortunately there’s nothing the Eagles can do about it.

Illinois Sports Gambling - Sportbook Radio Chicago_WCKG

Clay Travis is reacting to what was another bad performance from Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia offense on Monday Night Football. The scoreboard looked far closer than what actually took place. As the Eagles scored late in the 4th quarter to lose by only 6.

Clay breaks down Carson Wentz’s contract, and it does not look pretty at all if you are an Eagles fan. This year, he is making 18 million dollars off the cap. But next year, Wentz’s cap hit is a whopping 34.6 million dollars. The next two seasons his cap hit is over 30 million dollars as well.

The Eagles are basically stuck with Carson Wentz, but Clay details how this kind of situation isn’t exactly uncommon. There have been a few guys that had an MVP-type season, similar to Carson Wentz during his 2nd year in the NFL, and gotten paid and never again reached that level. Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, and even potentially Lamar Jackson, are a few recent example of guys that had one unbelievable season, and never really reached that level of play again.
